2019 Ambassador Program

2019 Seafair Foundation Ambassador Program Submissions due June 7, 2019

Program Overview: Each year the Seafair Foundation invites local area high school sophomores and juniors to apply for one of ten Seafair Ambassador positions. Selected students represent Seafair in a unique yearlong calendar of community participation. From essays submitted, the group is narrowed down for personal interviews from which ten students are chosen. The ten selected students will be International Ambassadors and receive the benefits listed below.

Ambassadors receive: • Mentor from the Seattle business community in a field of interest to them

• International Sister City exchange student hosting opportunity

• Exchange trip to Kobe, Japan

• Numerous opportunities to contribute time and talents to Seafair events and projects

Commitment: All selected Ambassadors must be willing to participate in/volunteer at the following events (exceptions may be made for qualified applicants with pre-scheduled conflicts):

June 21 – Seafair Kickoff

July 4 – Seattle Cancer Care Alliance Summer Fourth

July 13 – Lucerne Seafair Milk Carton Derby presented by Safeway Albertsons

July 27 – Alaska Airlines Torchlight Parade

August 1 – Brunch and the Blues

August 2-4 – Seafair Weekend

December 8 – 76 Seafair Holiday Cruise

Ambassadors will also be required to complete a community service project together during the summer.

The Seafair Ambassador Program has positively influenced the lives of many local teens. These former Ambassadors are now academic and professional leaders who provide inspiration to their communities.

Selection Criteria: Completed application and essay (500-750 words) and/or multi-media presentation (Video: 5-7 minutes, PowerPoint: 10-15 slides) with your insights on the following: Describe a community or school service activity you participated in that has been most meaningful to you. What impact did it have on your community? How has it changed you? Applicants will be selected based on their application materials and interviews held with Seafair staff and Board members. Ambassadors will represent a cross-section of the Puget Sound community: different high schools, interests and backgrounds. Applicants would do well to highlight what makes them unique, in addition to the requested information about their community service experience.

Yearlong Program: The selected students will be active as Seafair Ambassadors for the period of one year. Through volunteerism, mentor meetings and participating in festival events, Ambassadors learn just how global and local their own community is in preparation for an even greater learning experience as they host students from one of Seattle’s Sister Cities, Kobe, Japan and are hosted in Kobe.
