2014 Co-Grand Marshals: Seattle Sounders FC Players Clint Dempsey & DeAndre Yedlin

Selected eighth overall in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft by the New England Revolution, Clint Dempsey became an immediate impact player winning the 2004 MLS Rookie of the Year and helping his team reach the MLS Cup Final in 2005 and 2006 while being named to the MLS Best XI in both 2005 and 2006. In 2006, Clint made the move overseas to English club, Fulham. While with the club until 2012, Clint helped lead Fulham to their best finish ever in the English Premier League, during the 2008-2009 season, while setting the record for most goals scored by an American in the EPL. In August, 2012, Clint was moved to Tottenham Hotspur when he played until signing with Seattle Sounders F.C. in August, 2013. Clint made 213 appearances for Fulham and Tottenham, totaling 57 goals while being named the U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year in 2007, 2011, and 2012. Clint Dempsey currently stars and is a Designated Player for the Seattle Sounders F.C.

Clint Dempsey additionally has a successful international career. Representing the U.S. Clint first appeared in a game for the U.S. Men’s National Team in 2004, during a World Cup qualifying semifinal. He helped the U.S. reach the 2006, 2010, and recent 2014 FIFA World Cups, holding the title as Team Captain in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Clint has appeared in 109 matches for the U.S., scoring 39 goals overall.

DeAndre Yedlin has become a local hero, globally recognized and coveted just in recent weeks. Growing up in the Seattle area, DeAndre attended O’Dea High School, attended and started for the Sounders FC Academy team and was invited to the U.S. Soccer U-18 Men's National Training Camp and the 2010 SuperElite International Showcase. DeAndre received national recognition for his play and was one of the top college players in the nation while playing at Akron, earning All-MAC First Team honors in 2011 and 2012.

In 2013, DeAndre signed with the Seattle Sounders FC, becoming the first Homegrown Player in club history. Quickly becoming a starting defender at right back, and leading the team in minutes, DeAndre became a finalist for MLS Rookie of the Year and the youngest player to record a goal and assist for Sounders FC. Yedlin was also named a 2013 MLS All-Star, the first rookie to be named an All-Star since 2005.

Internationally, DeAndre made his first appearance for the U.S. Men’s National Team in February 2014. He was then added to the 2014 FIFA World Cup roster. He made his World Cup debut as a substitution against Portugal and immediately made an impact; helping fellow Grand Marshal and Sounders FC player Clint Dempsey score the team’s second goal late in the game. DeAndre celebrated his 21st birthday on July 9th, and will be a staple of U.S. soccer for years to come.
