Student Ambassador Program Application Process Now Open

The Seafair Foundation annually invites local area high school sophomores and juniors to apply for one of ten Seafair Ambassador positions. Selected students represent Seafair in a unique yearlong calendar of community participation. From projects/essays submitted, the group is narrowed down for personal interviews from which ten students are chosen.

Mission and Vision
Nurture future leaders through a program of education, mentorship, volunteerism and cultural exposure to create a future of vibrant and prosperous communities in the Greater Seattle Area.

The ten selected students will be International Ambassadors and receive the benefits listed below.

Ambassadors Receive:
·      $1,000 college scholarship
·      Seafair Mentor
·      International Seattle Sister City student hosting opportunity
·      Exchange trip to Kobe, Japan

Historically, the Seafair Ambassador Program has positively influenced the lives of many local teens. These local teens are now academic and professional leaders who provide inspiration to their communities.

From the notable professionals and executives in our community and those who sit on our Board of Directors, Seafair assigns each Ambassador a mentor for the term of their program. Seafair works to match students with individuals whose profession or interests complement each student’s long-term goals. Ambassadors will submit goals for their term to the program director for approval. Students will meet with their mentors 6 times during the year to work together on defining, setting and achieving educational and professional development goals.

The selected Seafair Ambassadors will be active as “Ambassadors” through a yearlong term. Through volunteerism, mentor meetings, and participating in festival events, ambassadors learn just how “global” and “local” their own community is. This preparation allows for an even larger learning experience as they host students from Seattle Sister City Kobe, Japan.

Homestay Exchange
Students are paired based on gender, similar interests and age. Homestay exchanges have included meetings with government officials, business leaders and various tourist attractions. Time at host school(s) and with host families allows for a truly unique cultural experience. Because this program builds close relationships, it is common for students and their host families to stay in contact for years.
