2013 Torchlight Parade Date: Saturday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m
The Alaska Airlines Seafair Torchlight Parade remains a time-honored tradition and features a dazzling array of colorful floats, magnificent helium balloons, lively marching bands, foot-stomping drill teams and spirited specialty and equestrian units. Northwest residents and visitors alike annually line the 2.5-mile parade route in downtown Seattle to witness this spectacular celebration of Seattle culture.

The Alaska Airlines Seafair Torchlight Parade features 100 entertaining, high quality and diverse units. Each year more applications are received than can be accommodated. Entries meeting all criteria set by the Selection Committee, and received by the application deadline, will be given first consideration. If your entry is accepted, Seafair will confirm your participation by June 3, 2013. Thank you for your application!
2013 Parade Theme: Captain of Summer
Seafair is the “Captain of your Summer!” We’re celebrating Seafair’s 64th year, and going back to our roots. In 1950, when the Seafair tradition began, one of the goals of the festival was to promote Seattle, the boating capital of the world. Since then – boating, and our waterways, have helped make Seattle the picturesque destination that it its. Think: nautical, boats, anchors, skipper wheels, sailing, flags, treasure or navigational maps. Get ready to come and “rock the boat” with us this summer!
All participants are encouraged to incorporate "Captain of Summer" into their parade entry. Theme ideas include: nautical colors in your entry, sailing-themed songs, nautical attire and costumes.

SELECTION CRITERIA AND APPLICATION TIPS
Seafair is a celebration of community spirit and a wonderful tradition for thousands of Puget Sound area families. Our spectators have been attending the parade since they were kids and now bring their own children to this highly celebrated event. Anticipation begins early in the morning as people start lining the parade route to save their spot for an up-close view. More than 300,000 spectators will take part in this celebration along Fourth Avenue!
Entertainment value is the most important consideration in the Alaska Airlines Seafair Torchlight Parade selection process. Our goal is to provide entertainment for our spectators along the entire route, including the live telecast area. Entries should be built, designed and organized in a quality manner. Seafair applauds the creative or unique use of the 2013 parade theme “Captain of Summer.” Be sure to tell us if you have experience or previous participation in other national or regional parades/events. Seafair represents nearly thirty distinct neighborhoods and we celebrate entries displaying our region’s cultural and ethnic diversity. Historically an evening parade, we love to see the use of illumination. Should the Torchlight Parade Selection Committee determine that an entry detracts from the basic mission of the parade, the Committee reserves the right to reject or cancel any entry at any time.
Please include in your unit description specific things your unit provides in the way of entertainment be it decor, music, crowd interaction or performance. We are looking for several bullet points describing your parade entry that can be used to assess how well it matches the selection criteria for the parade. These bullet points may also be used to provide the background to write a script for our radio and television partners, for use on parade night. Please provide the details that showcase your unit’s unique entertainment value and provide the proper background for the parade selection committee. Seafair reserves the right to edit this material when we produce a broadcast script.
Evidence of insurance for bodily injury and property damage liability with combined limit of one million dollars is required of all entries. Insurance certificates must have Seafair, Seafair Parade Marshals, Alaska Airlines and City of Seattle listed as additional insured. If you do not have insurance, Seafair’s Insurance carrier can provide the required coverage for the Torchlight Parade at a reasonable rate. The entry fee of $65 should be made payable to Seafair and must accompany the attached application to receive consideration. Accepted entries which cancel after July 5, 2013 will not be refunded. Applications that are not accepted will receive a full refund of the entry fee. Applications received without entry fees will be returned to sender.Non-Profit Entries - $800
