Rusty Pruden and Kimberly Pancoast Top Male/Female Finishers in
Seafair's First Olympic Distance Race
Nearly 2,000 participants took part in the 11th Annual Benaroya Research Institute Seafair Triathlon that splashed into Seward Park earlier today. Athletes raced in various categories, including: Olympic distance, sprint distance, relay teams and kids. This is the first year that Seafair offered an Olympic route, which sold out with over 500 athletes competing in the lengthened course.

Kimberly Pancoast, age 27 of Kirkland - 1:57:04
Rosalyn Rombauer, age 25 of Normandy Park - 2:02:28
Kara Nielsen, age 32 of Missoula - 2:02:38
Pruden and Pancoast were the top male/female finishers in last year's sprint distance triathlon at Seafair, where Pruden also set a course record.
Top finishers received cash prizes: first place - $500, second place - $250 and third place - $100.

Kids Triathlon
The event also attracted more than 250 future competitors. Beginning in 2002, the kids triathlon has grown from a mere 50 participants to its current level. All “mini-triathletes” received a medal and t-shirt. The kids tri included both Splasher (beginning) and Dasher (intermediate) categories.

Over $6,000 Raised For Benaroya Research Institute
Several athletes participated in the Benaroya Research Institute "Race in Honor of" program. Participants had the opportunity to support their family members and friends who are battling these debilitating diseases by raising pledges. All funds raised will support autoimmune disease research at BRI, including Type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis and arthritis.
