As many as 3 million Americans may have type 1 diabetes. Each year over 13,000 children are diagnosed with diabetes in the U.S. That’s 35 children each and every day. The Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason wants to change this statistic.
This year I am fundraising for juvenile diabetes with the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason and participating in their Seafair Triathlon. I have been aware of diabetes for most of my life as my dad has diabetes and Oma (my grandmother) had it when she was alive. Also recently a very close friend of my family and someone I came to think of as Grandma Boots, recently died, though some from old age diabetes played a crucial role in her passing. When dealing with diabetes a person must be very aware of what they eat. With everything else a child is going through today, what they should or should not be eating should be the last thing on their mind. This is just one small struggle a child must deal with juvenile diabetes. I cannot imagine what other struggles a child must go through. Please help me and the Benaroya Research Institute fight and support the children with juvenile diabetes.
From your donation you can extend and improve the Diabetes research program at the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason: diabetes research is focused on identifying the causes and cures of Type 1 (autoimmune) diabetes, through interactive, collaborative programs in basic and clinical research. Please help me raise awareness and funding for juvenile diabetes by your monetary support as I participate in the 2007 Benaroya Research Institute Triathlon at Seafair. Come see me race on July 15th too!
