Race To Eliminate Autoimmune Diseases

Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) is an international leader in immune system and autoimmune disease research translating discoveries to real life applications. BRI is one of the few research institutes in the world finding causes and cures to eliminate autoimmune diseases including Type 1 diabetes, arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, scleroderma and many others.

Autoimmune diseases strike one in 20 Americans. They occur when the body’s immune system, designed to protect the body, attacks it instead. There are more than 80 types of autoimmune diseases. No tissue or organ is immune from them.

Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis and Rheumatoid Arthritis

All donations from the Benaroya Research Institute Triathlon at Seafair go to support autoimmune disease research of Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis at BRI. These three devastating, chronic diseases, affect more than four million Americans — and the incidence is rising. As autoimmune diseases, they share underlying mechanisms, which are being studied at BRI.

The researchers at Benaroya Research Institute rely on philanthropic support to find causes and cures for disease. Your gift plays a special role in providing funding for new research programs and equipment.

Race in Honor of a Loved One
Support your family members and friends who are battling these debilitating diseases by wearing a “Racing in Honor of” color-coded wristband for a suggested donation of $10. Three colors of wristbands will be available at the Triathlon Expo and at the event. All of the funds raised will support Type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis research at BRI.
