Entry Categories
Racing
Two age categories: Child (ages 8-13) and Adult (ages 14 and up). Sculls, kayaks, surfboards and racing-type catamarans will be placed in this category. Any craft whose design and intent is primarily speed will be placed in this category (see note below).
Military
This is a special category for our military entrants. At least one crew member must be active duty military. A trophy will be awarded to the winner of the Military Race. A prize will be awarded for the entry judged to be the best design.
Commercial
This category is for entries with a company name, logo or slogan. A minimum of 100 half-gallon cartons or their equivalent is required. This category is not eligible for Showboat or other major prize drawings. Entries must meet conditions of the Open category.
Open
Any style entry other than Racing, Military or Commercial. Three categories: Child (ages 8-13), Adult (ages 14 and up), and Family (kids up to age 13 accompanied by at least one adult). This category is for entries where design, not speed, is the primary purpose (see note below).
Showboat
This category is for all entries who wish to only take part in the Parade of Boats. The Showboat Award is for the boat with the most unique and imaginative design and demonstrates a creative use of milk cartons. All entries are eligible for the Showboat Award with the exception of commercial and military.
NOTE: The Racing category is for entries designed for speed. The Open category is for entries where design and creative use of milk cartons is the primary purpose. The Open category entries participate in a race, but speed is not a major factor. The inspector will place entries in the Racing category if there is any doubt as to the intent of the craft. Open category entries which seriously outdistance the field may be reclassified or disqualified by the judges. All rulings are final.
