Title: Chief Marshal

Born in Seattle, Allan Kush’s first memories of Seafair start in the early 1980’s with the Blue Angels. In the late 1980’s, Kush became more involved in Seattle’s community events scene by serving as an amateur radio volunteer and helping out with the Torchlight Parade, along with several other community-based parades. Eventually Kush opted to become more involved with Seattle’s finest summer festival by officially joining the Seafair Parade Marshals. 

Since becoming a member of the group in 2003, Kush has joined his fellow parade marshals in assisting Seafair with the organization, production and execution of the Alaska Airlines Seafair Torchlight Parade, along with other aspects of the festival, including Seafair Weekend.  The Parade Marshals support the Scholarship Program for Women by sponsoring a scholarship, and help out with over twenty other community and fundraising events in conjunction with Seafair each year.

After serving a variety of roles within the organization, he was asked to consider running for Chief Marshal due to his earnest involvement. As chief, his duties involve everything from presiding over the group’s meetings to acting as the public relations face - attending functions on behalf of the Parade Marshals and answering questions from media and prospective members. He has served as the Chief Parade Marshal for the last three years. 

For Kush, Seafair is a time “when all the citizens of Seattle can forget about the rain (normally) and enjoy one of the main reasons we all endure the other nine months of the year... SUMMER! SUNSHINE! AIR SHOWS! BOAT RACES! And taking an active part in the fun and beauty that is Seattle.” This year, he is most looking forward to welcoming the finest precision aerial drill team in the world to Seattle at the Boeing Air Show - the U.S. Navy Blue Angels! 

With a member base of approximately 35, the Seafair Parade Marshals are a valuable and inspirational group of unpaid volunteers who are dedicated to giving back to their community.
