2010 SEAFAIR ROYALTY REIGNS OVER SUMMER IN SEATTLE
July 20, 2010
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Seafair King and Queen Serve their Seattle Community
Each year Seafair crowns one man and one woman to reign over the City of Seattle and represent the Festival as King Neptune & Queen Alcyone (AL-cee-on). This outstanding couple is chosen based on their philanthropic contributions to the Puget Sound region and their ability to inspire the communities in which they live. The couple encourages residents and visitors to take part in Seafair festivities and celebrate the community spirit of greater Seattle. King Neptune and Queen Alcyone are granted the power to “knight as Seafair Royals” individuals in the region who have in turn made an impact in their community.
Seafair is delighted to once again present and honor two extremely commendable individuals.
King Neptune LXI
Mr. John Curley
Auctioneer Extraordinaire and City Councilman
John Curley has earned numerous awards for his work in the community, and in the field of broadcasting. An avid runner and triathlete, Curley has participated in and helped promote several of the sports events produced by Seafair. In 2008, he trained for and competed in Ironman France and then produced an EMMY nominated documentary detailing his experience. Combining his passion for both fitness and charity work, he later founded the “I Beat John Curley” competition – where individuals can race against him in several different athletic events in an effort to win money for their favorite cause.
Curley spends his days working as a city councilman for the City of Sammamish and his nights as an auctioneer at over 100 events each year helping to raise more than 2 million dollars a month for non-profit organizations. He would rather raise a bidder card then taxes any day.
Queen Alcyone XI

Dr. Bonnie J. Dunbar recently stepped down from her position as President and CEO of the Museum of Flight to take the leadership role of Executive Director of the Wings over Washington, a Museum organization dedicated to the building of a new Space Gallery, the acquisition of a retiring Space Shuttle for the State of Washington, and the building of a new building for the Aviation High School on the Museum's campus. Dr. Dunbar retired from the NASA Johnson Space Center in 2005 after a 28-year career that included seven in the Senior Executive Service (SES) and eighteen as a NASA Mission Specialist astronaut on five Space Shuttle flights.
