Details:
Seattle is an amazing city filled with unique neighborhoods that have distinct personalities. In the Rainier Valley, we are proud of our distinction as the “most diverse neighborhood” in the United States. With a reported 60 languages that are spoken in the district, the neighborhood is a microcosm of a global village and those that live here enjoy the many cultures of the area through personal relationships, shops, restaurants and festivals. Come experience this unique community through a weekend of parade, party and festival fun.

Rainier Valley Heritage Parade and Summer Streets Party, Columbia City
11:00am-4:00pm: This is the 4th annual collaborative event of Rainier Chamber Foundation and Seattle Department of Transportation; although Columbia City has been enjoying parades and festivals for nearly a century. The festival kicks off with a local parade featuring 75 groups representing the diversity of 98118 with music, athletics and drill teams, cultural representations, vehicles (at times, we even have a hydro plane) and local heroes. Last year, our lead acts were “98118’s Got Talent” groups representing most of the world’s continents. Immediately following the parade, Mayor Mike McGinn will “open” Rainier Ave, between Brandon and Alaska for pedestrians and bikes as the Summer Streets Party continues the fun with: Music Stages, Restaurant Row, World Village, Wellness Zone, Green Way, World Games Street, Go Zone, Chess Tables and Art in the Alley. Summer Streets Party will be bookended with a skateboard slalom to the south and Old Rides Car preview show at the north end of the Street Party. Thanks to Seafair’s extra help with marketing and support, we had an all-time high in attendance, participation and attendance in 2011.
